Clare Shaffer

Clare is a DFW-based director, casting director, and producer who works across genres and specializes in new play development and contemporary musicals. She recently relocated from DC, where she had the pleasure of working with companies including Olney Theatre Center, Theater J, Mosaic Theater Company, Flying V, and Nu Sass Productions. Favorite directing credits include Venus in Fur, Noah: Apocalypse, Avenue Q, Sweeney Todd, and a hit actor-muso production of Assassins. Shaffer has served a three-year term as a Helen Hayes Awards Judge (DC's most prestigious theatrical honors), and been a panelist for the DC Arts & Humanities Council where she was instrumental in awarding their individual theatre artist grants. As a casting director, Shaffer has cast a variety of high-profile projects including the critically acclaimed world premiere of Carmen: An Afro-Cuban Jazz Musical written and directed by Moises Kaufman (The Laramie Project) at Olney Theatre Center. She has also taught audition master classes at Point Park University, The Vocal Arts Institute, and The Actors Center. As a producer, Shaffer has developed several new play festivals in addition to her extensive work on full productions.
