Denise Lee presents Divas of American Music

Sunday, February 9, 2014

Actress and vocalist Denise Lee, currently appearing on our stage in Avenue Q, is on a mission to re-introduce the art of cabaret performing to local culture. She began this initiative in November, 2012, when she presented “The Divas of American Music” at the Sammons Center Cabaret Series, and then in January of this year, she presented the show at the Winspear Opera House Hamon Hall, where both shows sold out.  Lee plans to take the show on the road throughout the U.S. beginning with New York and Chicago in 2014.  Before that, she will present her show for one evening only in the intimate space of the Ol’ Vic Café and Lounge on Sunday, February 9 at 6:30pm.

Lee is an award-winning actress, singer and down-to-earth diva. Her powerful voice, warmth and friendly demeanor are instantly recognizable on any stage. Lee’s strong, sassy and sensual performance style have charmed theater, nightclub and television audiences for more than two decades. Each of her cabaret performances is uniquely different, as Lee features different female greats in American music, among them Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, Bonnie Raitt, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Carole King, Whitney Houston and other female legends who inspire her.

“I've always had a love for cabaret performing.  For me it's the perfect mix of live theater and night club singing. It's about connecting with your audience and allowing them not just to witness, but on a higher level be a part of the experience. It's the PERFECT date night entertainment” she says.

Ms. Lee’s passion for the genre and her desire to highlight the amazing women of American music led her to release a new album, “The Divas of American Music!”  She launched this CD with performances at Bridge Bistro in Dallas and Uptown Theatre in Grand Prairie - to sold out audiences.  Stage West is delighted to offer this amazing artist to theatre patrons and music lovers in Fort Worth.  Tickets are $25, and are on sale now through the box office or online through the link on the website.  Dinner will be available as well and will begin at 6:00.
