Creative Drama

Ages 6-12

Musical Theatre Camp: Seuss!

June 10-14 | 1pm-4pm | $175
Seuss! focuses on the works of the infamous Doctor, utilizing music from Broadway and giving students opportunities to portray the characters they love reading about. Combination class is voice, acting and movement and culminates with a performance on the Stage West stage. Teacher: Cindy Honeycutt

Frumpled Fairy Tale Adventure Camp

Session 1: June 10-14 | 9-Noon | $175
Session 2: July 22-July 26 | 9-Noon | $175
What happens between “Once Upon A Time” and “Happily Ever After” is completely up for grabs as students use well known fairy tales and newer stories such as Frankenweenie and Up Up and Away as springboards to create their own play with a twist to be presented on the final day of camp on the Stage West stage. Hotel Transylvania

July 22-July 26 | 1-4pm | $175
Inspired by the recent hit movie, Dracula invites you to vacation at his luxury resort where monsters can relax-no humans allowed! Create your own monster character-Frankenstein’s Puppy, Invisible Man, Skeleton Girl, Betty Bat-let your imagination go wild! What happens when the humans show up? Why are they here? Let’s find out together as we explore simple story structure and characterization to build an original play to be performed on the Stage West stage. Teacher: Rebekah Carlile

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

July 29-Aug 2 | 9-Noon | $175
Everyone has a story to tell, so let’s get writing! Using Jeff Kinney’s book and The Bully Plays, students will create their own testament to life as a kid in 2013. Along the way, they will learn about tolerance, sensitivity, and also production aspects as they work cooperatively to stamp out bullying! Teacher: Tonya Wilson-Brown

 

He Said/She Said

July 29-Aug 2 1-4pm $175
A crime has been committed. You saw it, but so did he. You are certain of what you saw, but SO IS HE! Nobody’s story quite matches up. Come build a mystery at Stage West exploring plot, perspective, characterization, and effective use of props culminating in a performance on the Stage West stage. Teacher: Rebekah Carlile

Ages 13 and up

Summer Theatre Conservatory

(ages 14-22) An amazing journey including acting, dancing, music, puppetry, mask-making, playwriting, on-camera study, scene painting and much more – all culminating in a world premiere production on July 21. The course is taught by highly-seasoned professionals, and includes a full disc of agent-ready headshots for each student. The course to take to get a step ahead in the entertainment industry. Spoken Word

Session 1: June 10-14 | 1-4pm | $175
Session 2: July 22-July 26 | 1-4pm | $175
The best rappers start with pen and paper, laptop and skills, for writing down stories in rhyme. If you take the time to refine your line, and spend a minute to put your heart in it, what you produce is the seed of spoken word. Lift your words from the page to the stage, with the exuberance, style, and confidence of a legit rhyme master. Teacher: Tammy Gomez

Musical Theatre Camp

July 29-Aug 2 | 1-4pm | $175
Explore the timeless trials and tribulations experienced by teens and tweens while strengthening your singing, moving and acting skills. Music from teen-centered Broadway musicals will serve as the framework for original monologues and text, created by the workshop participants and presented on the final day of camp on the Stage West stage. Shakespeare For Teens

July 22-July 26 | 1-4pm | $175
Take a pair of star crossed lovers, mix it with a conniving queen, toss in a ghost or two and hand everybody a cell phone and an iPad, and you've got Modern Shakespeare, an exploration of the Bard's works for teens. Shakespeare's plays will be deconstructed and re-tooled for the 21st century teen, celebrating the universal themes while making the language more accessible for the young performer.
