Stage West acknowledges that advisories regarding content and subject matter can be useful to patrons.
The show advisories are a best-effort on the part of Stage West to supply our patrons with information that may aid their experience at the theatre, as it relates to script and production.
We also recognize that sensitivities vary person-to-person.

“With regard to strong language – we recognize that some patrons are deeply offended by profanity. We’d like to take a moment to explain why we do not let heavy use of profanity prevent us from programming a play that we feel is worthy of the stage. For many people, the f-bomb and other colorful words, are simply fillers. They are used loosely and without intention to offend. Still others use them to punctuate and be heard. Some people may use these words more often than others. “Cursing like a sailor” is a well-known phrase for a reason. This language is part of the ingrained vernacular for many people. All this to say, we believe those people’s stories are just as worthy to tell as those who do not use strong language. If we as a society cannot abide the use of strong language by others, or if we choose to say that a story is unworthy due to characters’ use of strong language, how can we ever bridge the gap between different members of society? These are, after all, just words. As mom said, “sticks and stones,…” Well. You know the rest.
The following is a list of words that will be used in upcoming plays. We selected the plays because we think they are meaningful, that they meet our mission, and that they give our entire community an opportunity to either see themselves on stage or to spend a couple hours with folks that may, on surface, seem completely different. Our hope, in the end, is to broaden perspectives a little while strengthening the bond called humanity. Oh, and it is also against the law to edit the language out.
